Experienced builders already have a feel for this, so this is for people who are new to building gaming and other graphics intensive PCs. I am aware that cards sold for MSRP are unicorns. I'm posting this to give new builders, and maybe some experienced builders an idea of what a good deal they are getting or how badly they are being ripped off. These are the MSRPs reported to Nvidia by the aftermarket manufacturers.

Scalpers are selling these cards for as much as 3X their MSRP. Shop carefully and don't get ripped off. Never buy a card, especially used cards, that will be shipped by an individual unless you know and/or trust the seller (I'm looking at you, ebay). A possible exception to that is hardware bought on r/hardwareswap. The mods there do a pretty good job of vetting sellers, but they aren't perfect. Buying in person is always better. If you use PayPal be aware that scammers are opening PayPal accounts and then closing or abandoning them after they get your money. Be aware that even Amazon and Newegg get scammed occasionally. Amazon makes absolutely no attempt to bar scalpers. In fact, Amazon will lock item ratings when people post scalper alerts. Scammers are selling empty boxes and pictures of boxes. Check the shrink wrap and box seals on "new" cards. Always check used cards for physical damage to the case, PC board, edge connectors, and/or mounting hardware. Look for board warping, excessive dust, broken or cracked fan blades, rusty or missing screws, broken or missing tamper seals, separation of the PC card from the heat sink. All of these are signs of a poorly maintained and possibly defective card. Ask for a demo, if possible.
I hope this helps new builders.
