So Apple finally revealed their M1 chip today, but a pleasant surprise was the fact that they opted not to discontinue their Intel based MacBook Pros. Possible reasons I can think of is the wider RAM options available, and to maintain support for the “Pro” market a little while longer.
This is of course different to releasing brand new Intel products, but may give us hope that this transition will be slower and smoother than first anticipated, perhaps releasing both versions simultaneously - I can see this being the case in the more powerful Macs in their line up, where professionals might not be quite ready to make the jump until all software is fully supported and optimised.
Is this an inkling of hope that we might get a bit more life out of Hackintoshes yet? It’s a long shot, but personally I’d be thrilled to get a supported Rocket Lake chip with better IPC and PCIe 4.0. It might not be as nifty as Apple Silicon, but it would still be a great machine.
