Different part considerations for building a hackintosh vs building a linux host for an osx VM?

My thinking is because of the hardware emulation, some parts would be more cost-effective for the VM option that wouldn't make sense for a hackintosh, or would the parts that generally work best with a hackintosh work best with linux + osx VM?
