Unusably slow screen sharing

I've got my Hackintosh currently setup with High Sierra (mainly to get APFS but avoiding some of the neutering on newer editions). However remotely accessing the machine from my MacBook is virtually unusable when using remote VNC or any other screen sharing apps. I've left the monitor turned on so it should avoid the "bug" where MacOS disables some video systems with no screen.

It's running a GTX670 with no modifications beyond the stock Multibeast UEFI install plus just VoodooHDA and Realtek LAN drivers, and it otherwise seems to work fine.

Any tips to make it usable remotely? Both the MacBook and the Hackintosh get >300Mbps when running speedtest and I can RDP from the MacBook to the Windows desktop and it's fast to the point where I can watch fullscreen video just fine, so the local network shouldn't be an issue.
