Could use some guidance from this sub!

Hi all,

I wish I could also chime in with my success story by now, but unfortunately I'm not quite there yet. I saw someone posting a success story -TODAY- with an almost exact same build as mine, so I'm confident that it can be done.

I've made this my Corona-project, wanted to have a decent dual-boot PC with Windows (VR/Gaming) and MacOS (Video/Photo editing and experience). However with this rate of success I might need another pandemic to be able to finish this. In Windows, all is good. Here goes;

Experience in hackintoshing = 0.

Enthousiasm = 5/7

The setup:

  • Asus rog strix Z390I (Latest Bios update)
  • I9 9900k
  • Samsung Evo 970 1TB NVMe (MacOS)
  • Samsung Evo 860 1TB SSD (Windows)
  • 2x16GB Corsair LPX 3200MHz
  • Gigabyte RX5700XT

I have been following the OC guide (0.5.8), it was a lot of "learning on the job" when it came o terminology and such. When I got to the point of trying out my bootable USB (which worked after I disabled "secure boot" in the BIOS, the verbose stalled at [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START]

I checked and rechecked all the possible solutions to this, to no effect.

Then I started from scratch again with 0.5.9. I stayed away from the prebuilt SSDTs and generated my own from the DSDT file that I got from SSDTTime.

In stead of being stalled at the same point, it now reboots to the BIOS. When I checked the log file I noticed that it did in fact reboot at the same point in the verbose. ([EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START]) This time, it also said: This system was automatically rebooted after panic. I can't really discover what caused the panic from reading the log file.

I have a few things I'm not certain about:

  • The RX5700XT should be natively supported in Catalina, do I really need "agdpmod=pikera"? I tried with and without.
  • What do I need to do with the iGPU. I'm not using it for driving a display, so the computing power can be redirected for other purposes. Or is it better to disable it? Not sure how to setup DeviceProperties in my Config.Plist
  • I'm sure I'm missing a few drivers, but according to the guide the two to get it up and running, are there.

Copy of my Config.Plist here;

I realize that for the more seasoned Hackintosher, this will probably be a 20 minute job, so please be gentile, I'm here to learn.

Thanks everyone for all the inspiration so far.
