Hi friends! First of all thank you all for all the knowledge you've collected in this awesome subreddit. without it I wouldn't have gotten anywhere.
I wanted to share my experience here with this my first Hackintosh build.
I sure didn't study enough before jumping into it but after a couple weeks studying and learning and breaking it down I got to a point in where the Hackintosh might replace my MacBook Pro 2012.
Ill try to keep it simple and concise so here it goes.
Hardware,
It is a HP ProDesk 400 G3, with its original MoBo, Power Supply, Chassis, I/O, Buttons, CPU Cooler and Heat Sink.
CPU, Intel Core I7 6700
iGpu, Intel HD graphics 530
Ram, 16 gb (2x8gb) 1 Samsung and 1 SK Hynix 2400 MHz but only running at 2133 mhz.
Intel 100 Series H110 Chipset Motherboard (original from the HP Prodesk 400 g3)
Audio Codec, On this one I just skipped the installation since I use an RME usb Audio Interface for music production and I don't need working audio IO besides that.
Ethernet, Realtek RTL8111HSH-CG GbE, it just worked.
No WIFI
Bluetooth, HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 4.0+EDR Wireless Technology, Not sure if it will work or not, anybody knows about this one? I really miss using my Apple Trackpad. Thinking about a USB Bluetooth dongle.
Storage, Main bootable drive is a Crucial P1 M.2 NVME 500gb on a generic NVME m.2 to PCI E 4x adapter, second one is a WD green SSD 480gb and at last a WD Black HDD 7200 RPM Sata.
I know I made a mistake and started with the wrong foot but it worked on the first try and then I switched roads to the right path,
I created the OSX installer bootable USB drive (out of ignorance) using UniBeast, I was able to install Mojave on the first try but never got to use MultiBeast since I went the Clover configurator way, I also updated Clover UEFI to the latest version getting rid of the one that UniBeast installed.
I will leave pictures of my BIOS settings in case some might find useful, Im sure there is a bunch of HPintosh capable computers (HP Hackintosh) that could use a somewhat similar configuration.
Once I booted in Clover Bootloader for the first time I went into the OSX installer, then Disk Utility to format the NVME drive in APFS file system, then started the OS installation until it rebooted automatically, after that I booted from "Install Mac OS from PreBoot" and then after a second automatic system reboot I booted from "FileVault at PreBoot" after this I got to boot Mac OS from NVME drive, allowing me to get into the installed OS and create a new user account.
The first problem I ran into was a BIOS time error which I still get sometimes, its just a warning when I turn on or restart the computer asking me to press enter to boot normally. Seems to be a common problem with Dual Boot systems so I installed windows to try n fix it from there with no luck, I still get the error message sometimes with no other effects than that.
Once inside OSX I cloned my EFI partition from the USB installer to my NVME drive to stop booting from the USB drive and to Boot straight from the NVME drive instead.
Pretty soon I figured out that I had no graphics acceleration, so I fixed it by setting the right SMBIOS, I went for a MacMini 8.1 and stetted up the ig-platform-id for the GPU as 0x19120000, I also generated a Serial number an checked on apple server that it was an Invalid (so working OK) serial number, I saved the new configurations to the config.plist file and everything went well after that. After installing a couple drivers on Clover configurator and updating some of the kexts (manually to the latest versions, as in a copy paste operation :S ) (so far IDK how I got this to work but I'm posting from the Hackintosh right now I pretty sure in my mess I did some things correctly) I rebooted the computer again and I got to a fully functional MAC, Graphic acceleration was working, booted automatically, working super good so far, I installed Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 10, my main DAW Bitwig Studio 3, and a bunch of VST software instruments and audio effects, everything working flawlessly so far, I haven't loaded any huge project yet though so its soon to be tested under heavy workloads, (only audio though).
Softwarewise the only thing giving me problems right now is Wine, which is not working with many .exe files and freezes finder for a couple seconds.
I use Duet to use my iPad as a second screen and I realized the iPad wasn't charging while connected to the computer but still working as a second monitor, all USB ports were working but somehow not giving enough juice to charge, after some research I find out that I had to rename the EC so I did it from the ACPI tab on Clover Configuratorusing the patch EC0 to EC.
After rebooting again I got a charging iPad, but then again stoped charging, and now it started charging again. Im super confused now because my config.plist file now doesn't show any of the changes to the SMBIOS or anything else.
So that is another doubt I have, I thought I saved all the changes to the config.plist file.
Right now my iCloud services, iMessage, Quicktime screen recording and many other things are working OK, Im even using my Apple ID and my account shows up my new Mac mini there, as it was a real Mac mini along my iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro.
I haven't mentioned that I broke the system many times thru this process, I always had a previous state backed up in a USB SSD so I could easily go back to a running computer every time I made a mistake that wouldn't allow the machine to boot.
After everything, I did a Vanilla OSX USB installer to try installing osx again, this time on a new ssd drive but the installation wasn't successful, the weird thing is that the new Clover Bootloader in the USB EFI partition and the config.plist didn't work for a new osx install but it was good to boot my previous OSX installation (made with Unibeast) and besides booting faster than regularly, it also brought me to a fully funcional system and this time clover configurator showed perfectly what I did to the new config.plist file, It showed me the new SMBIOS settings this time as an iMac so im pretty sure It was the new config.plist and EFI partition that I created to do my clean Vanilla install.
I still have long ways to go, and still want to finally achieve a fully vanilla installation.
But I've found this topic fascinating and been wanting to build a Hackintosh ever since I put together the pieces for a core 2 quad pc many years ago but got osx installed by somebody else.
I don't want to bother too much with silly questions since most o my problems are probably posted somewhere around the web, I've used google a lot and in my despair I've went bing, yahoo and even atavista. But I needed to put this out there for my peace of mind and to basically ask 3 questions here.
Does anybody know anything about the HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 4.0+EDR Wireless Technology, does it work on a Hackintosh? or should I just go with a USB Bluetooth dongle?
Is there a reason for my first plist.cofig file not showing any of the changes I made to it in Clover Configurator? My Hackintosh keeps working fine using that EFI partition and config.plist, I haven't lost any services or functionality,
Im thinking about paying for a 1 on 1 lesson to achieve a fully vanilla install on the computer to make sure im doing things right and not counting with the luck I've had so far. any suggestions? is it a good idea to get a class with Ibrahim Muslim or Morgonaut or somebody alike? do you guys think it would be a good idea?
Maybe there is somebody here willing to spend some quarantine time giving classes!
