First timer's reflection | OpenCore | i5-9600k, Asus TUF z390-Plus Gaming (Wifi), MSI Radeon RX 590 Armor 8gb OC, G SKill Ripjaws V Series 16gb 3200MHZ WD NAND SSD

This post will be a first times reflection on the building process. If you are new and want to see another new person's experience and trouble shooting for these parts this post may be useful.

No pictures because I don't think it would add much substance.

Picking Parts

This one was semi easy. I followed anti-hackintosh Buyers Guide for the most part. Steered clear of brands it advised against as well as looked at what builds of parts have been working on recent success posts. The goal of this machine was to have something between and tier 3 iMac and iMac Pro.

I didn't bother getting bluetooth working at this point because it's not a priority for me. It is something I am looking to get working once the current situation subsides and I can order things a bit more freely.

Open Core

So the vanilla guide is actually really amazing. It walks you through everything. Aside from that posts that I found extremely helpful was u/wordsnwood's build post and the video he referenced using the same mobo as him.

Problems

So on my first attempt I got this grey-ish screen right before the installer. I am still not entirely sure what caused it as at this point I worked through the night and the next day I just started from scratch again.

I think I noticed one part of the config.plist being different from the previous night and I realized I may have done the incorrect Bios settings as I couldn't find some of them. To fix the bios thing I just followed the video from above and did the parts that I had but I noticed I was missing some of the options and so I just ignored those.

I also ran into the problem of not being able to enter the bios after a failed attempt (due to incorrect configs and bios settings) to fix that I tried resetting the board via battery and shorting it but unplugging the SSD's I had in it (one had windows the other was empty) and trying to boot it and then shutting down and replugging fixed the problem.

Since I was dual booting from two different SSD's my times on my OS's were incorrect. I thought it was just a windows thing but when I adjusted Windows my osx clock became incorrect. I later found a fix for the hackintosh dual boot situation but at this point I became unable to go back to the original problem and now sometimes its ok sometimes its not so its just kinda of a lingering problem till 0.5.9 I guess when I will have to upgrade and hopefully the original problem comes back.

I tried USB mapping for this board but honestly I just wasn't able to figure out what the guide was saying some times. And the last step or two went over my head so I just stopped as it was working well enough for me. Ill just note not to use too many usb ports at once and if I need more I'll just use a hub as it only counts as one (I believe thats what the guide said)

Closing Thoughts

So the Vanilla Guide is extremely well written and there are a lot of really good tutorial videos on youtube. I feel like it seems a lot more complicated then it is but its definitely not something everyone can do without some level of base knowledge about how computers function at a higher level. I didn't interact with this community that much while preparing and building but thats only because there has been so much extensive discourse that a beginner like me who isn't trying to be the first to a unique setup will be able to find help for their own hardware.

I don't feel like throwing up my files would be that helpful since I used mostly the basic ones and did not add anything. Even for audio layout I just used 1 and it works.
