Help with messy upgrade? 7600k/RX 580

I had Vanilla Mojave stable on my hack for a while, and figured it would be safe to upgrade to Catalina.

It looked like the install was successful, but I got a grey screen with a cursor. I tried a clean install of Catalina, and although the install looked successful, I got a half white/half black screen after install and it would just hang there.

I got desperate and tried a UniBeast install, and to no one's surprised it didn't work. So I wiped it and tried the clean install again but it encountered the same issue.
