Spent the majority of last week reading and rereading the opencore desktop guide, as well as watching opencore videos. Managed to get up and running with minimal fuss. Asus z370-a, 16gb ram, i7-8700k, Asus TB3 pcie expansion card, Nvidia Aorus 1080ti, 1tb sata ssd. I set this up specifically to play with LUNA which was just released on Mac only by Universal Audio. I have a 2012 silver face quad Apollo with TB2 expansion card, and I am using a Startech TB3 to TB adapter. The system is stable and there are no issues with any of the hardware, ethernet works fine, onboard audio as well as the Apollo audio are fine. Luna loads and functions. The only problem in life is that the Nvidia 1080ti, although working, is causing some flickering and draw issues in luna, as well as in safari, and even in Catalina. I am not sure what to do about this, I could try going to the internal graphics on the motherboard, or I could go out and get some kind of AMD graphics card I suppose. I have done my best google fu on this but it seems that although Lilu and Whatevergreen are allowing the 1080ti to function, it's not really ideal. FWIW I did verify that I have functioning NVRAM. I don't understand Apple's choice not to continue to support Nvidia chips especially with the advent of RTX out there, but that's not the hill I want to die on today. If anyone has any suggestions for me on how to improve my situation, I am all ears. [link] [comments] |
