Hi All,
I'm about to upgrade my machine from High Sierra with a NVIDIA 1080Ti to Catalina with a Radeon VII. Since we're jumping up two OS generations, I'm having it done as a clean install on a new drive.
When my Hac was built last year, its SMBIOS was set as iMacPro1,1 (iMac Pro 2017). This made sense since this was the closest Mac Apple made to mine at the time. Now that the Mac Pro is out, I'm wondering if it makes sense to change the SMBIOS to MacPro7,1 (2019 Mac Pro) since this is a desktop profile which seems more like my build and I'm going to be setting it up as a new machine from scratch.
Here's my build:
MB: Gigabyte X299 Designare EX
CPU: Intel Core i9-7940X (Skylake)
GPU: Aorus GTX 1080Ti Waterforce Extreme MSI Radeon VII
RAM: 128Gb
PSU: Platimax 850
Dual boot - macOS, Windows 10, and a reserve drive incase there's any trouble.
Everything working great with an LG Ultrafine 5K monitor
This build has been golden for the past year or so. But I can't deal with buggy NVIDIA web drivers any more and need to get up to date with macOS.
Would there be any downside or new problems introduced if we change SMBIOS to MacPro7,1 (2019 Mac Pro) with this upgrade?
Is there any reason why I should stay on iMacPro1,1 (iMac Pro 2017) at this point?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
