Hi
I have been a Mac User since I got my mid 2010 27inch iMac back in 2011. That machine was my main computer until a few years ago and more recently it became a family machine my kids have been using it for homework, learning how to code and some games.
It died last week , the usual issues probably a dead GPU I have tried all the fixes taken it apart etc nothing works so not worth wasting more time right now. I don't want to buy a new / used Mac simply because of the price and we don't need an iMac really anymore so just a good cheap / mid range Hackingtosh will do.
My question is can I use some of the parts from my iMac in the new build to save some money here and there (and also simply see if it can be done).
The exact specs of the machine can be found on the link here. https://support.apple.com/kb/SP695?locale=en_US
I was thinking along the lines of reusing the CPU as its the i7 and seems a shame to just throw it away. I do understand that newer motherboards may not support this CPU and most defo not the memory. That is why I am here for some advice or if anyone knows if this is possible or worth the hassle of getting it work as a hackingtosh.
If you need anymore info let me know.
