I upgraded from Mojave to Catalina over the weekend. I don't game on this machine and don't have the most powerful internals:
i3 8100 CPU
16gb 2133MHz DDR4 RAM
4GB RX570
Overall performance is snappy. No issues running multiple apps or any of the typical post upgrade Hackintosh headaches (full onboard audio and GPU support).
The one thing that's been really strange: extracting zip files is extremely slow. As an example unzipping 1.55gb archive took over a minute to complete. On top of that, if I try to open files or apps while extracting, they take forever and also cause the extraction to slow down. The second the extraction is done, everything's back to normal.
I'm at a bit of a loss -- has anyone seen this before? All my kexts are up to date, my SSD is about 2 years old but seems fine, my Geekbench scores are consistent with others that have similar hardware, and I believe my Vanilla install to be pretty clean; no extra kexts, boot is smooth etc. Open to any feedback/trying any suggestions anyone may have!
