External drive sometimes not writable?

Sometimes my external USB 2.0 (it might be 3.0, but it's not USB-C) drive is not writable. It's kind of random. After each boot, most of the times it's writable, but sometimes it not. Is this a common problem with Hackintosh or could it just be the drive itself? Something tells me that it might have to do with the whole USB business. Currently I have USBInjectAll.kext and I've also applied the "Hackintosh 10.14.6 USB Patch" from this guide that increases the port limit. I'm pretty sure that this problem occurred before applying the patch though.

The drive is formatted as APFS.

Not being writable is manifesting itself by not being able to save files to it, not being able to create new folders etc. The menu when right clicking in a path in the drive doesn't have the "Create new folder" option. Ableton Live also tells me that the "drive is not writable" when trying to either save a project or using certain plugins that requires folders to be writable.

Here are the specs:

  • System: macOS 10.14.6
  • Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-A II
  • CPU: Intel i5 9600K
  • CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15S
  • GPU: Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 8 GB
  • SSDs: WD Black SN750 NVMe SSD M.2 250GB (macOS) and Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 SSD 1TB (Windows)
  • PSU: Corsair RM750X
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 3200MHz 2x8GB
  • WiFi/Bluetooth: fenvi T919
  • FireWire: SYBA Low Profile SD-PEX30009
  • Fans: 2x Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-14 PWM and 2x Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-12 PWM
  • Case: Fractal Design Define C

And the kexts I'm using:

  • AppleALC.kext
  • IntelMausiEthernet.kext
  • Lilu.kext
  • FakeSMC.kext
  • USBInjectAll.kext
  • WhateverGreen.kext

OtherThe Hackintosh 10.14.6 USB Patch that increases the USB port limit.

Would appreciate any help with this issue.

Edit: Remounting the drive made it writable again, so it doesn't seem to be something that stays from the initial boot.
