First time posting. Hoping I did adequate research before asking for help.
I have the following hackintosh spec that was running on Mojave:
- Gigabyte Z390 AORUS Pro
- i9-9900k
- 64 GB Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-3200
- 1 TB ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro NVMe
- PowerColor Radeon Vega56 RED Dragon
When I got the initial build working I was struggling with MultiBeast (didn't know of this sub yet, didn't know it was bad).
I ended up getting a (as far as I could tell) working setup by using the EFI from here: https://hackintosher.com/builds/gigabyte-z390-aorus-ultra-i7-9700k-vega-64-hackintosh-build-guide/ (which, thanks to this sub, I also know is bad now).
However, it was working, and I really didn't want to wipe everything and start from scratch if I didn't absolutely need to.
I upgraded to Catalina today and during the upgrade process all I saw was a black screen, but it went through. Once I booted into the OS for the first time I saw the Apple logo until the point where it usually glitches and the graphics acceleration kicks in (when the second screen usually turns on) but now it would just lose signal at this step. I fiddled with Clover and since the EFI had backups of the other versions I reverted to the original one that I had and it worked.
Now my attempt at a USB configuration stopped working, but I could at least log in. But I needed to change my SMBIOS to the right one with my i9. Once I did that, I ended up with the same problem with the Apple logo switching to no signal.
I switched back to the version with the USB fix, but applied the SMBIOS from the working EFI (despite it not being the one I want) and I got to the point where graphics kicks in, but it froze and the fans kicked on (didn't check which one).
I hope someone has an idea of what could be going on, because even if the recommendation is "start from scratch with a Vanilla build guide" I'm afraid I may end up running into the same issue anyway.
Please let me know if I missed any details. Any help is appreciated.
