Upgrading from High Sierra to Catalina

Hi,

I have a stable High Sierra build (running for ˜2.5 years now) but just bought a new 4k monitor and am having problems with not my Nvidia card not supporting the full resolution of the new monitor. My hackintosh was setup according to TonyMacX86 instructions and I'd now like to take this chance to upgrade to Catalina following the guide here.

My current setup is:

  • Motherboard - H170M-ITX
  • CPU - i5 6400
  • RAM - 16gb
  • GPU - Nvidia GTX 750 ti
  • Case - Coolermaster Elite 110
  • PSU - EVGA Bronze 450W
  • High Sierra 10.12.3

Main purpose is for Lightroom and Photoshop but also do some light gaming.

Questions:

  1. I know this GPU is not compatible with Catalina, budget is around $100-$150 to replace this. With the relatively small case and PSU I want something not too power hungry. Looking at a RX560 - is this the best option? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1470327-REG/msi_r560ai2c_radeon_rx_560_aero.html
  2. For restoring from backup will TimeMachine work or should I manually backup?
  3. Which ethernet kext should be used for the H170?

Also welcome any other thoughts or comments - thanks!
