I'm sure anyone serious about audio probably never upgraded to Catalina anyway. However for those like me who make music as a hobby (and as such is one of the main reasons I choose to use macOS), I tried to upgrade from Mojave.
I upgraded to Catalina knowing that 32bit support would break. This was fine because only one AU I had was 32bit, and it was replaceable. Catalina itself I think is great - the PDF rendering is a whole lot better and this matters for me as that is what I spend most of my work-time with. I was also planning to buy a 5700XT in the next couple of weeks.
HOWEVER - I found my USB MIDI controllers were not recognised at all (Roland, MAUDIO). Because they are older, it looks like driver support is non-existent, and for me as a hobby it would cost too much to have to upgrade all my hardware, so unfortunately I had to clean install Mojave and restore from Time Machine.
The annoying thing about this situation is that I would like to use Catalina for graphics support, but I am essentially stuck on Mojave until I can plan out and afford an upgrade path for my audio stuff, or unless hardware vendors decide to write Catalina drivers for their legacy products (am not holding my breath).
Basically, just be aware that for people using older gear, Catalina may break it.
