Thank you guys for being an awesome community, I spent weeks lurking before pulling the trigger on this. I built this machine as an audio workstation. It's my third Hack but best one yet. Running Mojave 10.14.6 since my work software isn't ready for 'Lina yet. I debated waiting for the New Mac Pro, or buying a maxed out Mini before biting the bullet on this build instead. It's more interesting this way, and I always have my old Hack or Macbook as backups. Main uses are running Pro Tools for work and occasional video editing in FCPx or Premiere. At $1500 I am pretty happy, especially considering my previous builds ran about double that. i9900k (not overclocked) RX580 8GB Auros z390 Master 32GB 3200Mhz RAM (2x16 so I can go 64GB if needed) 500GB NVMe boot drive beQUIET Case and CPU fan (about 30dBa on normal usage, quiet enough to record a pin drop in the room) I also added 2TB of SSD media storage and 2TB of HDD sound effects/sample storage but those are not part of the build. Everything works so far. I call her "Silent But Deadly." [link] [comments] |
