First, specs:
- MSI X570-A Pro
- Ryzen 5 3600
- GTX 1080
- 16GB G.Skill RipjawsV DDR4 3200MHz
- Some Kingston/HyperX 120GB SSD
I'm trying to install High Sierra according to the AMD-OSX vanilla guide but the recovery mode environment keeps freezing a minute or two after I start it. There doesn't seem to be any particular action that triggers it, it happens during installation and also when I'm using the other recovery mode tools (terminal etc). Verbose boot says something about a kernel panic whenever I reboot the installer after it freezes so I'm assuming that has something to do with it, but I haven't been able to find any logs because, well, I don't really have time to do anything useful with the terminal before the system freezes.
My kexts are as follows:
- Lilu
- VirtualSMC
- NullCPUPowerManagement
- WhateverGreen
- RealtekRTL8111 (with the OSBundleRequired setting changed from Network-Root to Root to make it work)
- AppleMCEReporterDisabler (no effect, same thing happens with or without this kext)
- USBInjectAll (ditto - I initially thought it was just my keyboard and mouse freezing but I don't think that's the case)
What gives? I installed Catalina by following the same guide and it worked perfectly (I'm switching to HS because Nvidia drivers). Does High Sierra require a different set of kexts or different versions of them?
