Back in the Intel i5-750 / Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 days, I used to be all into Hackintoshes - and they ran quite well. That was also in the beginning days of TonyMac, whose site and DSDT database was quite useful. But due to swapping builds, amongst some other things, I've fallen back to an Linux/W10 dual boot. However, I now have some reasons to get back to macOS - mainly due to macOS only software used for my courses. And then a laggy VM with macOS isn't very useful. Therefore, I was wondering whether my current PC is 'up to the task' or not. I used to use the osx86 compatibility list, but that seems a bit dead now - isn't updated in ages. The hardware I'm working with is:
- An Asus ROG Z170 Maximus VIII Hero
- An Intel Core i7-6700K
- An MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G
- 1 WD Blue WD40EZRZ, 4TB (mass storage for games etc.)
- 1 Crucial MX300 2,5" 275GB (Linux)
- 1 Crucial MX300 2,5" 525GB (Proposed for macOS)
- 1 Intel 660p 1TB (Windows 10)
- Lastly, Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3000C15
Do you guys think this would be a fruitful endeavour? I'm not interested in getting high-power GPU tasks working, although every now and then some CPU-intense calculations will happen. I do use a dual screen setup and audio via an external TEAC DAC. There are no wifi devices or anything like that connected. Having a working PS/2 port would be nice for my keyboard though, but I could, theoretically, do without.
Very curious to hear what you think, and if you need any more information, I'll probably gladly give it to you.
