A year or so ago, I posted about the success I had creating my first Hackintosh thanks to this wonderful subreddit and the people in it. Unfortunately, I was never able to make the graphics work completely, and I finally got fed up with that and installed Linux and later, Windows.
I missed my Hack, though, and this summer I bought a graphics card, an ATI Radeon RX-460. I also bought my very first SSD. I got my Hackintosh install USB stick out and got a brand-new Sierra install going.
Man, the difference a good video card makes! I absolutely love this thing now. Also, if anyone reading this is wondering about whether to get an SSD, DO IT! It's almost unbelievable how much improvement you'll see. I spent a whopping $25.00 US on mine, and that includes shipping. It's small, just 120 GB, but you can do what I did and use the old spinning drive for storage.
Everything works, except for iMessage and FaceTime, and that's because I no longer have my iPhone, which got dropped into a river. Sleep works, which I can't explain because the Radeon is literally the only change I made from the first install, where sleep did not work. I'd love have iMessage, but FaceTime is not necessary for me.
A big thank-you once again to the folks here. This is a terrific resource, and you smoothed the way to this success with the info you provide.
Finally, some specs: HP Envy desktop with 12 GB RAM, Intel core i5 4570 @ 3.2 GB, came with integrated graphics but now has the above-cited card. Broken Broadcom wifi/BT card, but has ethernet, and I also have a Fenvi FV-T919 ordered that's supposed to arrive Sept. 10.
