Stereo audio not working *only* on headphones. AppleALC, using 3,5 jack.

it works absolutely fine in stereo on windows with the headphones, and it also works on a bluetooth speaker and the laptop's speaker.

what i have to do to hear anything and not just random noise (i can't describe this. every connected headphones that way they work but something doesn't work and you hear absolutely random frequencies instead of the actual sound? that's what happens.) is to go to Sys Prefs -> Sound -> drag sound balance for headphones either all the way right or left. that plays audio from the left/right headphone in both headphones properly. this only happens on macos, only on headphones as i said. the slider's supposed to make one headphone louder, but it doesn't. it seems like applehda only gives the same sound to both headphones.
