I have a nice working machine thanks the great guide on github for my Asus Laptop.
https://github.com/tctien342/Asus-Vivobook-S510UA-High-Sierra-10.13-Hackintosh
I installed High Sierra with Clover 5058 and updated all my Kexts to the latest version.
My CPU is an i8-8250U paired with 16Gb of RAM, GPU is Intel UHD620 only. All working well.
I just have one problem, it's about thermal throttling/power limit on High Sierra (on AC power) :The i5 8250U is @1.6Ghz base clock, 3.4Ghz turbo boost single core and around 2,4Ghz boost when all cores are used in same time)
- I did some benchmarks with Cinebench R20 in High Sierra and Windows 10. I used the Intel Gadget app on both OS to monitor the speed/temps/usage of the CPU in real time.
*On High Sierra I got a score of 875. The CPU boost for a short time but when degrades to 1,6Ghz in 1 second and never go beyond. While it's happening, I check the Intel Gadget Monitor app, and I can see that when the temp reaches 70 degrees celcius it's unable to ramp up the fans and keep the turbo boost active. Also the CPU Power package limits itself at 8watts (It could go up to 25 watts).
*On Windows 10 , I got a score of 1209 so it's about 38% better performance. The CPU Boost at 2,4Ghz steady, all cores active and Fans ramps up during the whole benchmark. CPU Power package is higher.
Here are the solutions and things I tried :
- Testing with different versions of the Asus bios (308 and 310), I got exactly the same results.
- Using Volta app on High Sierra to increase the power limit, activate turbo boost etc. No effect at all.
- Using different versions of Clover, no effect.
- Checking if I have CPUFriend.kext installed (I don't have).
Considering the behavior of the laptop during benchmark on High Sierra (volta app etc.), it looks like it's a problem related to Clover config or the values in the power management. It's clearly a power limit or temp limitation on HS compared to Win10.
Is there any way to simply increase the power limit and temp limit ? or any other trick ?
Thank you very much for your help !
