7nm Zen 2 Ryzen and audio-visual productivity scenarios

There is an absolutely justified huge hype regarding the new Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, especially regarding the price/performance ratio and recently improved compatibility with MacOS. The thing is that the perfs are most of the time benchmarked using virtual load and/or with gaming in mind, which are quite different compared to a "productivity" scenario. By that I'm especially thinking about using Adobe Suite apps, audio softwares (Logic, Ableton Live, Cubase...), and dedicated hardware (soundcard, capture devices...). Not particularly thinking about CAD and 3D softwares even though they're somehow part of the deal.

From my readings I've seen that Ryzen Hackintosh totally worth itnow, except some specific scenarios most of the time related to audio-visual productivity focused scenarios. It includes:

  • Lack of integrated graphics, meaning the dedicated GPU have to handle more charge (might lead to more power consumption, heat and noise even when during tasks considered as "light". This point seems crucial when it comes to sffpc
  • Audio issues with motherboard
  • Audio issues with external sound cards (USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt) and more generally speaking hardware compatibility
  • Issues with some Adobe Suite apps (there is a few fixes on amd-osx.com but it's from older Ryzen), apparently only with last Lightroom

I found some resources and feedbacks, mostly regarding older Ryzentosh builds, but it's still hard to find anything with Zen 2 CPU as they are only two months old. As many of us use their hackintosh for audio-visual productivity, I thought it would be useful to gather any important information in the same place.

I know some of the pointed issues are also true for Windows builds (especially when it comes to compatibility with some sound cards, and/or in low latency scenarios). So I wonder if tests made on Windows are transposable to hackintosh in any manner, when it comes to relationship between software and CPU instructions, and between external hardware and motherboard chipset. Do you have any hint ?

Please don't answer the typical "don't use a hackintosh, especially with AMD, for your professional activity, but only as a hobby" :)
