Is an 8TB Exfat internal drive safe to use between Windows 10 and Mac OS El Capitan?

I keep seeing mixed reviews on doing this, but haven’t read any horror stories on it. Has any one heavily used an Exfat drive between the 2 for a few year to tell there own experience??
