Hello, i'm sure there are a ton of posts like this, but i've searched a ton of forums and have had no success to some of the issues i'm having.
I jumped into building a hack 6 years ago, and have been learning/winging it ever since. The computer is running and i've been able to successfully use it for editing and other video work (i'm an editor full time) but I constantly get the feeling I haven't installed the right kexts etc to optimize it to it's fullest.
Here's what I built in 2013:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 @GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
3.5 GHz Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHZ Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad Core Desktop Processor
GIGABYTE GA-277X-UP5 TH LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6 Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with Dual Thunderbolt
My Startup HD is a Samsung 500gb SSD, and I have a few other internal WD Drives inside connected with Sata.
My Network card is Fenvi FV-T919 Wireless Desktop AC1300 Dual Band PCI Express Wi-Fi Adapter, Bluetooth 4.0, Support Hackintosh/Mac OS/Windows 10, Up to 1300Mbps Data Rates, 2.4G/5G, 802.11ac,Broadcom BCM94360 Wifi Card
and I have a bluetooth keyboard, as well as a logitech wireless mouse (usb dongle)
Not sure if it matters, but I have a RN10400 Netgear NAS connected via ethernet as well.
Hooked up to 2 Dell U2713HM Monitors via DVI.
I initially set it up in 2013 via multibeast and tonymac, but now have it running off EFI with chameleon. I just hope made that transition right/have the necessary kexts etc.
The computer thinks it's a iMac (27-inch, Late 2013). Currently using Sierra 10.12.6
Corsair GRAPHITE CC600TM case
PSU CORSAIR| CMPSU-650HX 650W
WATER COOLER CORSAIR| CWCH10
Problems i'm having:
Exporting in Premiere kind of prevents me from doing much else, when I export, the computer kind of lags and i'm really unable to watch a youtube video or continue editing. Hasn't always been like this, queuing in media encoder and closing premiere only marginally helps. Is this just inevitable over time? is it because of the DDR3 ram, despite there being 32GB of it? or because the GPU is a bit older at this point? Not sure why this happened all of a sudden.
Computer doesn't stay asleep, it'll turn right back on after falling asleep for a second or two. When i shut it down, it just boots back up after a few seconds, until i physically turn it off with the power button, then it'll stay shut off. (sometimes have to do this twice) This has happened in the past but usually fixed with a kext or something. Started happening again after I installed that network card. In terminal, when i put syslog |grep -i "Wake reason" I get these two responses:
kernel: (AppleTopCaseHIDEventDriver) [HID] [ATC] AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)
kernel: (AppleACPIPlatform) Wake reason: EHC1
And yes, Wake for network access is unchecked in both the settings and BIOS.
Other than the performance dip those are the main issues i'm having, and again, I keep thinking that I don't have it optimized enough. 32GB of ram is still good, right?
I was thinking of upgrading some of the parts to make it faster, but in doing that, i'll probably need to upgrade the GPU, MOBO, and RAM? If i'm able to just make it better with newer parts, i'd prefer that vs having to buy an entire computer again. Was hoping this build would last me 10 years, but who knows- apparently my GPU is still supported in Mojave/Catalina, but i'm afraid to make the upgrade given how it's acting already in Sierra.
Can send config list, if I figure out how to attach it here... Thanks to anyone and everyone who may be able to help!
