Upgrading to Mojave from High Sierra

Upgrading to Mojave from High Sierra

I finally got around to getting an AMD card for my system since it seems like Nvidia is never going to release drivers for Mojave. I installed the Vega 64 card last night and all worked fine under HS. I cleaned up my system by getting rid of the web drivers and got ready for Mojave.

I downloaded a fresh copy of Clover and installed it. Made a backup of my old EFI folder. Copied the EFI folder created over to my EFI drive and merged it with my old one.

Started the installation process and nothing happened. Well, I got stuck at the install screen below. Since that didn't look right, I decided to reboot to HS.

I chose my HS installation and nothing happened. I tried booting into safe mode and then single user mode. Those didn't work, so I booted into Windows and put my old EFI folder back. Everything looked ok until after the first Apple logo and the computer just shut down.

The only other thing I did was update my FakeSMC.kext and Whatevergreen.kext. I downloaded the versions I was using before when my system was working and that solved the problem.

I'm now back running HS but I still want to upgrade to Mojave. I don't want to do a clean install. Any advice? I'm at a loss about what to do at this point.

My specs:

  • - Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 5
  • - Intel 8700k
  • - Vega 64
  • - various SSDs and HDs

Up until tonight, my system has been running perfectly and it seems fine now that I'm back in HS. I'm probably missing something important in the upgrade process.

Edit: this is a vanilla install. Kext are all installed in the /kexts/other folder. Kexts currently installed:

  • AppleALC.kext
  • FakeSMC.kext
  • IntelMausiEthernet.kext
  • Lilu.kext
  • RealtekRTL8111.kext
  • WhateverGreen.kext
  • XHCI-300-series-injector.kext
