Security updated and security software

Hi all,

I built my first hackintosh recently, using a Nuc i5 and have a stable machine on Mojave 14.0. I have not checked up on what all the updates since then are about, but if I am running a robust security app (Sophos Home) do I ready need to worry about security risks?

I just don't have the time at the moment to deal with any problems that may occur, but I will update immediately if I'm in danger of real problems.
