Nvidia 980ti - will it break my build if only used for CUDA programming?

I have a working "golden vanilla build" with Mojave.

I also dual boot at the hardware level by having a completely separate ssd for Ubuntu.

I'd like to use a 980ti for programming. I could use it exclusively on Ubuntu if there's no way to even summon it from within Mojave, but I'd obviously like to be able to leave it plugged into the motherboard.

Firstly, I shouldn't expect to be able to summon it from within Mojave at all, correct? Even if I don't use it to drive the monitor.

Second, any way I can leave it in without messing everything up? Might downgrade to high sierra just because of this, but I obviously want to avoid that if possible.
