Hi there, this is my first hackintosh and I've been working on it non-stop and overnight for over a week. Feel like its time to make this post to record my process for MSI laptop fellows and to ask for help.
First of all specs
- Cpu : i7-8750H
- Gpu : GTX1050(not using)+UHD630
- Chipset : intel HM370
- Motherboard : MS-16R1(no information if you search this on internet though)
- Audio Card : ALC269
- Trackpad : Showed both PS/2 compatible mouse and HID-compliant mouse option
A quick overview, the first time I try to install I use unibeast with high sierra. Install end up successful but I cannot fix the 7mb vram issue no matter any method I try. After reading a lot in this subreddit, I decide to format my disk and give vanilla and mojave a go(rehabman's guide). Pure vanilla is a fail for me(I'm sure I'm doing something wrong), can't fix "waiting for root device" with usbinjectall.kext and all sort of setting.
So I end up using the same vanilla disk I made, but with EFI folders from other successful MSI users with similar specs. Install is successful, graphic card is recognized right away, however there are still few problems that bothers me a lot.
Graphic/Audio lag??
I put a question mark because I'm not sure which is causing the problem. Here is what it look and sound like.
https://reddit.com/link/burb6v/video/0thuy4h0ib131/player
Youtube videos are unwatchable. Graphic and sound are laggy and
break every few seconds. UHD630 are showing correctly in "about this mac". So at first I suspect it is dvmt preallocated setting causing the problem(I was using the framebuffer solution at that time)
Here's a tip for MSI laptop user, the way to open bios advanced setting is "Right Shift + Right Ctrl + Left ALT +F2"
I spend a whole day learning about efi shells and extracting bios THEN I realize I can open it with just few keys...... But after I set the dvmt value to 64 nothing improves.
Or maybe it's cause by audio driver? Worth to mention that music played in Itunes are also corrupted like youtube videos. Im using VoodooHDA at the moment since there are to many layout for alc269 and I'm still on the process of trying every one of them. But is it even possible for audio drivers to affect video graphics?
The last guess is CPU-wise problem. Since the lag is most severe after the machine boot and it gets a little bit better when there is no usage(just a little bit).
Mouse/Trackpad lag
Mouses and trackpad accelerate and slow down unpredictably and also skip frames every few seconds. You can also see that in the video.
I've tried appleps2smarttouchpad. It let me use all gestures but the performance is even way worst. Can't use keyboard and trackpad with VoodooI2C & HID. So now I'm using VoodooPs2, but you can see it still lags and a huge downside is that it don't detects any multifinger gesture(no trackpad found in setting).
Not sure about whether the problem is caused by trackpad driver or the same thing causing my graphic lag.
Shutdown & Sleep issue
I know shutdown reboot is a common issue. Also sleep reboots to clover screen then stuck at there can't do anything. Needs to long press laptops power button and fully restart again.
Can't output HDMI to other monitor
Just like this
These are the problem that I found and really affects daily usage. I'm dual booting if that's important.
Sorry for the lengthy post and bad grammar(English is not my mother tongue).
Any help or suggestion is appreciated!!!!
