Kernel trap type 14 after completing Mojave installer and attempting first boot

i5-8600K Vega 56 MSI Z370 SLI PLUS

I successfully got into the installer and it finished, but upon rebooting from the newly installed Mojave partition I get this kernel panic every time:

panic (cpu 1 caller 0xffffff001eedb92d): kernel trap at 0xffffff881eed4273, type 14=page fault Fault: CR2

Most of the help articles I’ve seen apply to Haswell only, so I’m pretty stumped.
