I have a question about using an adapter to use JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) with macOS. I have a NUC5i3RYH that has an m.2 slot. I originally bought a m.2 SSD then later decided that I wanted to use the m.2 slot for a Broadcom Wifi/Bluetooth chip.
Accordingly, I bought an adapter that is the size of a 2.5 drive which allows me to plug in two m.2 SSDs. StarTech.com S322M225R Dual Slot M.2 to SATA Adapter, 2.5" I was thinking about using it to dual boot Windows and macOS. I just got the second m.2 SSD.
When I put it in with the adapter jumpered to be in JBOD mode, I get an error saying that there are no disks installed, so the computer cannot even see my macOS install. If I remove the second (unformatted) drive, it sees macOS just fine. What am I doing wrong? If I go and install Windows on the second drive (by removing all but the Windows-destined drive), and then stick both drives back into the adapter will that work? Or is there a deeper problem (drivers? BIOS settings? board compatibility?)
Thanks! Confused about where to look and what to research. Searching JBOD and macOS had not turned anything up.
