Hackintosh on external SSD

Hello,

I managed to run macOS 10.14 Mojave in VirtualBox and it works, but it is quite slow and sluggish, so I think that I would create a dual boot (my primary system is Linux), but I don't want to mess with my primary drive (like partitioning, etc..), and I don't have other drive, because I have a laptop with one m.2 ssd.

So I would like to install Hackintosh on external SSD (SATA) drive connected to my laptop via USB 3.0.

I know that speed of USB 3.0 is around 5Gb/s so it is around 600MB/s. As far as I know there are lot of real Macs with 5400rpm HDDs, so I think my external SSD will be much faster as these real Macs with HDD, but I am curious about latency.

USB 3.0 has worse latency than internal SATA port, but I wonder what has better latency if my external SSD connected via USB 3.0 interface or 5400rpm HDD inside some real Mac connected via internal SATA port.

For external SSD I would like to use Kingston SSDNow UV500 480 GB M.2 inside some external box.

If someone is interested for guest VM (macOS) in my VirtualBox I set:

CPU: 4 threads (2 cores) of 8 threads (4 cores) - Intel Core i7 8550U

VRAM: 128MB

RAM: 8GB of 16GB
