Are small OS updates seamless when you use PC parts of the tonymacx86 recommended list? Are they even useful?

Do you have to look for new drivers for every hardware piece or can you do small updates seamlessly? Did you guys ever benefit from a small update? If yes, can you tell me a bit more about it?

Also, if you didn't have parts from the recommended list would the process of updating be annoying or just an easy task? My fear is that it would be some sort of gamble where you would always have to do backups and then update every single driver individually after searching it online and then also copy dozens of lines of code into several files each time you wanted to do a small update...
