So I’ve been using a 2018 15” MacBook Pro with an eGPU for the past 6 months and it’s probably been some of the most frustrating computer experiences I’ve ever had. I had the machine replaced a total of 6 times now with 1 hole in screen(there when opened box), 3 GPU failures, and 2 keyboard shift key failures( butterfly 3 is my favourite typing experience but some of the worst for reliability). It had frequent Kernel Panic s and many graphical issues with the eGPU but I survived with it as all I really do is compile code and play Witcher 3 side quests.
But when I saw a 6700k system with a gtx 980 for $400 CAD, I instantly swooped it up. Even came with a 144hrz 1080p monitor and some Razer peripherals. And then a week later, a PowerMac G5 Complete in Box came up for sale for $150 CAD on Kijiji and grabbed that as well. So all together with all the supplies I also bought for the build, I spent a total of $600 CAD but selling the GTX 980 resulted in a total $300 and I can sell my eGPU enclosure and the 144hrz monitor as I already got dual 4k monitors
The Hackintosh runs absolutely beautifully and doesn’t make a peep under Mac OS and a low hum while gaming under windows. Plus this was the fastest and easiest Hackintosh I ever made, less than an hour installing MacOs and Windows
