Hi, I currently have a Mac Pro Early 2009 (specs -> image + 256 Samsung Pro SSD). Because the Mac is really consuming a lot of power, I would like to change it to a more energy efficient solution. The Mac is mainly used for a Plex Media Server, which does a lot of video transcoding and is on most of the day (if more power efficient maybe 24/7). Is it possible to get a Hackintosh which is suited for transcoding multiple 1080p streams (would prefer hardware transcoding if possible) and 24/7 use, with a dual LAN and enough memory (preferably 16GB+) for less money than the 2018 Mac Mini? The Mac/hackintosh will be used headless so I don't know if a GPU is needed? Does a GPU help in hardware-transcoding? I that case, what GPU would be a good option? Thanks in advance :) Regards, Patrick [link] [comments] |
