Hi everyone,
I was doing some music production on my hackintosh iMac this morning when I noticed something odd. There is a music software DRM program called "iLok" that a lot of companies use. I'm not really here to argue the merits of that software or whether or not I like it... but it uses the system SmUUID as an identifier to confirm if a machine truly is who it claims to be.
My problem? iLok used to work with my SmUUID and confirmed it with my system name: "Keith's iMac".
Today, when I tried to update some licenses in iLok, it came up as "Cameron's iMac".
I logged into my iLok account to confirm nothing fishy was going on there. I recently changed my system and Apple ID passwords so I doubt it's an issue of my account being compromised. "Cameron's iMac" is using the same SmUUID from what I can tell, which is not strange given what I've read about certain mobos not generating this ID correctly on hackintoshes.
My real question is: should i swap my ID? Are there any adverse effects of 'sharing' this SmUUID?
