Some background... My 2011 iMac's GPU is practically dead, still a decent machine otherwise. I could go ahead and replace this part through Apple for $600, a refurb of unknown origin for around $250-300, or simply replace the entire machine with a brand new iMac through Apple for around $3000. I thought to myself, there has to be a better solution and I've decided to build myself a Hackintosh.
Aside from running my digital and personal life, I do use my computer for work. I will be doing photo and video editing. If this were to happen 6-10 years ago, I'd just buy a new iMac and call it a day. However, Apple's current hardware offering is so far behind the rest of the industry... 7th-gen Core chips when 9th-gen chips are currently on the market is unacceptable. At this point, it's just best to build a Hackintosh and get more power than an iMac Pro for less than the $5000 entry point.
With that, I wanted to ask the community if a Hackintosh is a viable replacement for a genuine Mac? I understand there are possible compatibility issues and it may not be a smooth transition from official hardware to a Hackintosh, but can I expect the same experience once I have the machine up and running?
