I've been running Sierra for awhile now, and with the latest updates I figured it was time to finally take the desktop to the HS realm. I have it installed on a laptop and it works well on it.
I run a 7600k i5, Asus Strix ROG B250H w/16gb, evga 1050TI 4gb, onboard sound/lan.
Some of the things to keep note of:
If going to HS, it will format your SSD into APFS, you can setup the installer to not do that and use HFS or whatever flavor you wish. Just google for it, plenty of guides.
If you format manually into the APFS, be warned: If you use the case sensitive format, you will run into program issues. For example, Steam does not want to run/work/install on a mac drive that is formatted in the case sensitive format. The work around is to make a drive image without it being case sensitive and install steam and said games there. Also my weather app wouldn't run on the case sensitive format. Works just fine now on the standard APFS format.
When it comes to getting the audio and video working?
This guy is a godsend! Nothing easier now to install nvidia drivers without hassle. Worked like a charm for me.
Easy Audio This is a great all in one patch that is easy to use and doesn't mess with the native files, unless you want to.
Change your icons the easy way! For some odd reason HS has a hardon issue if you wanna change your icons. Use this, drag and drop and done.
So far everything is working, I don't have HDMI audio working, don't really have a need tho. I use a 2k monitor with DP, and my sound is 5.1 so I have that working just fine. USB, Ethernet, video, audio, power management, sleep and sound after sleep.
Here's a SS of the kext I have installed in my EFI
And here's a nice SS of my desktop and such
Happy Hacking!!
