Hackintosh or eGPU?

I currently own a late 2013 2.3ghz mbp... I study architecture and will be going back to uni for my masters in September.

I am looking to buy a desktop for vray rendering, I would love an imac pro but seriously - who can afford that.

I have been eyeing up a pre built hackintosh - i9 7960x (16 core) gtx 1080, 512ssd and 32gb. This processor will cut my current render times down by about 10x.

Of course with the new support from Apple for eGPU - I’m considering another option - sell current MacBook in order to buy a new 2016/17 mbp that’s supported, then buying an eGPU...

Can anyone offer their opinion? The eGPU option is cheaper plus I get a new mbp in the process, but wondering if anyone can give me any advice as I’ve seen reviews with people claiming the eGPU doesn’t work as well with some programs as it should. Would I go for amd or Nividia for vray?
