Hey Everyone,
I posted this in the PCMods thread with no luck, so I thought I'd try here.
I am looking to start a mod with the components I already have and putting them into an iMac G3 case. The goal is to have a portable LAN Rig that has a screen already attached. Yes I'm aware that it is a crappy monitor since its only 15 inches and going through a VGA Cable however when i'm playing at home I have a crispy 1080p monitor to play on.
I will be ordering the supplies for this build soon however I wanted to ask this question before ordering just so I don't miss anything.
My main concern is the monitor. I am concerned with how I am going to power it and have it all wired up. It requires a 15inch monitor and I actually have a spare old laptop that has a 15inch square monitor that will fit in it. It is a Lenovo T60 1953 Series. I understand I will need an LCD Controller Board but other than that I am not familiar with too much electrical work in regards to soldering and not blowing up stuff.
I would like to have the monitor work similarly to a laptop where the monitor is always on and powers on with computer. If possible I'd love to have the monitor wired to my current power supply (EVGA - SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold). Seen possible ways of cutting cable to work with a molex cable but I'd like to see what others recommend.
Also when I do start the modding process I will try and film and take pictures along the way to show progress cause I know people like that. Also let me know if you need further info on my current equipment if you need it. I will be more than happy to comment it below.
Thank you, Sebastien
