So I'm interested in operating both Mac and Windows on a laptop (not a desktop) like most of the world - I shan't bore you all with why. From what I've read, the easiest method is to buy a Macbook and install Windows (which is costly) or buy a Windows laptop and install Mac (difficult). My question is: can you buy a laptop without an OS that is optimised how I want it, then install Mac on that, then use Bootcamp or whatever it's called to install Windows as well?
My reasoning is that it avoids the cost of buying from Apple (who I try and boycott in general) but it also avoids the difficulties in running a stable installation of Mac on a Windows laptop (I hear there's problems with OS updates, and that the specs have to be very very exact and I'd rather have as few problems as possible).
Am I on the right lines? Am I delusional? Has anyone gone down this route?
I understand Hackintoshes are much easier on desktops and that custombuilding a rig is easier as a desktop too (my local IT shop don't custombuild laptops but my desktop from them is ace), but I'm insisting on a laptop next time as I have to travel between two countries and I don't wish to have to buy two desktops and twiddle my thumbs on the trip.
My last question, which might not be in the right place, but here goes - is a virtual installation of Mac on a Windows laptop of any use? Is there a good subreddit to find answers to questions about that?
Please be kind as I only happened on this sub through endless Google searches and I'm very much a beginner at all of this. Thanks!
