Some time ago I built a hackintosh. Actually, it was more accident rather than a strict plan. Anyway, it is Intel CPU based, Z170 and two RX 480 cards (with RX 580 firmware) PC that is now running fine on High Sierra with both cards enabled. Recently I got HTC Vive and while on Windows it was quite easy to make the whole thing work, on macOS it's not that easy.
Issues experienced:
- Indirect mode warning - solved by attaching HTC Vive to 2nd GPU (no crossfire on macOS anyway).
- SteamVR installed, configured and Vive shows empty room (with parallels and meridians visible) but what should be black has magenta color. I didn't go any further than that empty room.
- Pulled Unity SteamVR asset but couldn't make the scene build (AFAIR missing openvr plugin).
- Quite often SteamVR fails to start (multiple reasons).
I didn't plan to make a post about (that's why I can't give more details) but maybe someone tried to make VR run? I don't care about games but having Unity running smooth with VR would be nice.
