The process was admittedly a little bit bumpy, but it involved nothing that couldn't be fixed with a sophisticated, scientific approach: part googling, part prodding with a stick. I'll outline it briefly so that others with similar specs may benefit from my experiences.
I chiefly followed the sidebar guide detailing a vanilla install, but while it provided a great foundation (especially considering I've never done a hack build before), I had to mix & match it with information from other sources before I could get it all to work. Main differences are as follows: * OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000 efi over OsxAptioFix2Drv * A different (namely newer - taken from HWSensors3v51) fakeSMC kext than the one cited in the guide. This proved to be crucial. The second stage of High Sierra installation process would invariably fail without it * Since I was installing to an M.2 SSD and did nothing to prevent the Installer from converting the filesystem to APFS, I threw in the APFS.efi for good measure * I changed the darkwake flag to 8 as per instructions in a High Sierra guide over at hackintosher.com, though to be fair with you - I don't really know what the meaning of this value is, and whether it is effective in the first place. The system sleeps and wakes up just fine, in any event...
Nvidia drivers gave me a little bit of trouble in that they wouldn't activate following a reboot, but this was fixed by adding the EmuVariableUefi driver in Clover.
Other than that, I enabled the Windows 8 WHQL support in BIOS just so the UEFI video drivers could be loaded, giving me proper, native 1440p in Clover as well as during the boot process. A minor thing perhaps, but it adds the the "Mac experience", if you will. Makes it all feel that much more polished and legitimate.
I'd like to thank the community for all their wonderful contributions that make building a Hackintosh possible, and not that much of a hassle either - even to a guy like me who's never done it before.
