High Sierra: Audio ELI5?

So in the pre-Sierra days I was one of those persons who used *Beast tools, eventually got to switching to Clover and making my own USB install, but generally accepting that things "just work". I went to Sierra and things didn't work, namely sound, and I gave up for a year. Ran one of those Toleda scripts, no joy and realized I had to use DisplayPort with my 1070 instead of HDMI to get sound, bought a $3 DP-to-HDMI thing from eBay, got sound. Was happy.

Then I upgraded to High Sierra, and lost sound again.

From what I can tell, there's a variety of similar scripts as the one I ran for 10.12, except this time none of them are recommended here and the documentation for them on tonymac's it seems like none of them are "click and it's done" style solutions. It seems like you have to know technical details about the IDs and addresses of components on your computer, and how to inject and modify things beyond changing a few 1s to 0s on config.plist. Which means it's beyond most of my experience.

So, is there a guide to get audio working that people can reccomend to get audio out of my Nvidia card on High Sierra, who can guide someone who maybe doesn't quite know what they're doing? Most of the guides I've seen posted here were made before release, and I don't want to inadvertently follow a 10.12 guide in 10.13 and make things even worse.
