Help needed with ASUS GTX 750 Ti 2GB and El Capitan Installation

Posting here at the recommendation of u/UnDeaD_AmP - Hoping to get some resolution on the matter as I'm at my wits end and ready to sell the card...

I've had a working Hackintosh for a number of years now. Recently I decided to refresh it a bit, part of which included getting a new GPU. Not putting too much thought into it, I picked up an ASUS GTX 750 Ti, and have been having a hell of time getting it to work. After a little searching on Tonymacx86, it appears that most folks need to flash new firmware onto this particular card (the ASUS specifically, not all GTX 750 Tis) to get it working. I'm trying to avoid that if possible, and am considering flipping the card for a GTX 760 which I think might yield better compatibility. In any event, here's some details on my machine, what I've tried, and what the results have been.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L CPU: Intel Q9300 Core 2 Quad 8GB Ram System Definition: Mac Pro 3,1

I followed the Tonymac guide to install El Capitan, and it went smoothly. Machine boots with the USB installer stick and mostly works. Some issues with sleep but I haven't even attempted to fix that yet since the GPU has been so problematic.

With my last install, I actually did it with the GTX 750 installed in the machine, and it works with the native drivers in a basic sense... one of my two monitors (DVI connected) works, but everything is laggy. I've following the Tonymac tutorials on getting the NVidia web drivers installed, but things don't seem to want to work. I've installed the web drivers, set the appropriate boot flag (nvda_drv=1), disabled the 'Inject NVidia' option, and the result upon reboot is the system booting to a black screen. Monitor cycles through DVI and VGA, then goes no signal. The OS is loaded though from what I can tell -- I can open/close the DVD drive via the apple keyboard key, so I don't believe the system is locked.

I've also tried booting and loading an alternative video bios for my card, using a few GPU bios files that a few others had claimed to work, but this also seemed to result in either the black screen or a boot loop.

I've killed my installation and had to start from scratch two times already, and feel like i'm just doing the same thing over and over with the same result. I've also tried loading the nvidiagraphicsfixup kext per the instructions, but still no luck.

Open to suggestions, as part of me wants to fix this just to say i've conquered it, but given the known challenges with the ASUS variety of this GPU, I've also gone ahead and queued the GTX 750 up for sale and have a 760 potentially incoming, which will hopefully make the problems go away. Still, would love to have figured this out.

I'd be more willing to flash a new bios on the GPU, as others have claimed that to work, but it's not clear to me if that would solve my current problem of the card not working with the webdrivers, or if the bios flash was mainly to fix issues people were having with dual displays and using the HDMI ports of the card. I've only got DVI on my two screens, so those are the ports i'm interested in getting to work.

Thanks for the potential assist...apologies for the long post.
