Does printf work?

I can't be the only person ready to pull their hair out over this message? I can get my Hack to boot occasionally but 9 out of 10 times I get this message in verbose mode and/or the prohibited sign.

System:

macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 MSI z270 SLI Intel i7 7700 GeForce 1070 GTX

I've tried slide=0, -f and no luck. I've double checked everything in the bios until I'm blue in the face. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
