Waiting on Wifi+BT card. Should I wait to set up iMessage until they arrive?

Fresh Sierra install, and I want to give iMessage a go. This seems like the hardest step to me, since it comes with the fewest guarantees. I have a bcm94360cd coming in the mail from China. Is it important for me to wait until that's in my system?
