Hi there.
I recently picked up an older SFF desktop tower, which I might try to turn into a hackintosh. However, I'm torn on what to do in relation to GPU's. I'd like to be able to leverage the benefits of an AMD card when using iMovie/FCPX on MacOS, but seeing as the system has a rather wimpy PSU (240 watt) and AMD cards typically require a fair amount of power, this might not be a smart move (so the RX 560 unfortunately isn't an option).
I could also just go for a low-profile Nvidia card (like the 1030), which would be fine for most purposes (perhaps some light gaming) and on Windows as well, but then I'd miss out on the AMD optimization on MacOS. Not sure if the 1030 even works that well on MacOS, and it's not exactly a powerhouse either.
My question is: should I wait for the next line of AMD GPU's (featuring much smaller die sizes), assuming they'll have the same degree of compatibility with MacOS, or should i go for some OEM version of a GTX 1030?
My intention is to not spend too much money on the build, seeing as this will be done purely for personal/leisure purposes. I don't need AMD Vega/GTX 1080 performance for 4k gaming or anything like that, just decent performance without breaking the bank.
Thanks in advance!
