Freezes on El Capitan - overloading tasks?

Hi all - I just upgraded my rig to El Capitan so I could sync my iPhone X.

Worked out a few of the bugs and was able to finally use the computer for a couple hours without any freezes.

But - I still seem to get freezes when I am doing a lot of stuff at once. This last time was backing up one drive to a WDmycloud while browsing (using Chrome), keeping activity monitor and console up in the background and listening to iTunes - I was searching through Apple Radio when it actually froze on me.

I read something (but can’t find it now) that I may be overloading the system, causing the crash, but I could do all of this on Yosemite and have no issues whatsoever. I tried installing Sierra but it isn’t taking for some reason, so that’s on hold.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Setup: I7 4770k Asus Z87-PRO mobo 16gb 1600 DDR ram 240gb SSD startup On board GPU (I think it’s intel HD 4600)
