Hi, I read through most of the guides linked over in the sidebar (as well as spent a few hours googling), but before I went and dropped a couple hundred dollars I wanted to double check and make sure I'm not crazy.
Backstory: I'm in need of a PCI compatible mac to run a PCI based audio recording system. The older macs are iffy at best, and really expensive, and the new macs don't have PCI slots. I've looked into it, and the PCI card I'm using (the Motu PCI-424) isn't compatible with external thunderbolt enclosures. It does, however, work with hackintoshes. So I'm in the clear.
Questions:
- I have a NVIDIA GTX 950 lying around from an old gaming computer. From what I've read, it'll work, right?
- My computer is currently running on an AMD processor, so I need to change to intel. Looking at user benchmarks with a budget of 300 bucks, it looks like the i5-8600k is some pretty good bang for the buck. Do you guys have any other recommendations?
- Is there anything else I should take into consideration? I'd like 32gb of ram, so I'll make sure my motherboard supports that, but do I need anything for PCI compatibility??
Thank you in advance!
